Year 12 Retreat

On Monday 7th of February the year 12 cohort ventured out to PGL Campaspe Downs in Tylden. The camp was designed with a series of activities to develop the students ability to work together, to challenge their way of thinking and to build on their resilience and ability overcome anything that life may throw their way. Students participated in a challenge course on the first day where they needed to communicate effectively with each to ensure their team could successfully work their way through a series of challenging obstacles to make it to the finish. After dinner that evening, the group played capture the flag and tug of war out on the oval, testing out their abilities to race the opposing team to see who could become victorious in capturing the other teams flag – the pink team won with two flag captures under their belt compared with the blue teams one.

Over the course of the two day retreat the Year 12’s engaged in a series of workshops to build their strategies and the keys to success with sessions on goal setting, stress management and organisation. The students upon their return to school have continued to discuss Ms Hollands stress bucket strategy, a wonderful addition to the tools they have to ensure a successful final year at school.

On the final day of the retreat the students then split into two groups – one participating in activities on the giant swing, and although scary every student in that group gave it a go, some even overcoming their fear of heights in order to participate, and the look on their faces was priceless. The second group got to go canoeing, they paddled around at super speed, playing tag and “world domination”, and although there were some narrow misses and one group even went for a swim after overcommitting to tagging another canoe, the year 12’s had a brilliant time working together.

Ultimately, as the final camp our year 12’s will have in their final year of secondary education, we saw each student grow as people and experience things they haven’t had the opportunity to recently in the last two years. I have no doubt Year 12 retreat is something each person will remember and take away some skills and strategies to help themselves be the very best they can be in 2022.

Looking forward to a great year with many more memories and learning to come.
