Problem Based Learning

A few weeks ago, Ms T and Miss Miller reached out to all the year seven students, asking them if they would like to join the Problem Based Learning Working Party (PBLWP). The PBLWP’s job was to create activities with our allocated groups that were related to our topic. Our topics were research, public speaking/communicate, presentation and goal setting/leadership. These activities would be used during the PBL learning week. PBLWP was a fantastic opportunity to work with the teachers and year seven students from different houses. PBLWP was also an amazing opportunity to learn about the process that teachers must go through to plan and create lesson resources. Thank you, Ms T, Miss Miller and Ms Keen for helping run PBLWP.

We all enjoyed being able to learn these valuable life skills in a way that we didn’t need to use our textbooks and pens for, and it was a way for us to be able to make decisions independently while also bonding with people we didn’t really know that well in our class. Problem-Based Learning was a way to incorporate important life lessons into the classroom while also letting students decide for themselves what our priorities and goals were for our tasks rather than following a list of instructions and a set of criteria. The PBL learning week gave us an opportunity to have control over our learning to a certain extent and this is something everyone really appreciated and had fun with.
