Focus on French

Bonjour à tous!
It has been fantastique to reconnect with everyone back at school this term.
Year 5 & 6
Students focused on the revision of core vocabulary. This included sharing information about themselves and posing questions. Students learned to ask the question ‘quelle heure est-il? - ‘what time is it?’ and explored French vocabulary related to time. They learned about ‘les matières scolaires’ - ‘school subjects’ and created their own school timetables using this vocabulary.
Year 3 & 4
Students revised key vocabulary through drama-based tasks. They then learned about ‘la météo’ – ‘the weather’. Students developed the ability to respond to the question ‘Quel temps fait-il?’- ‘What is the weather like?’ They applied this knowledge to create their own weather forecasts. Students will have opportunities to draft greeting cards for friends and family over the next week or so.
Year 1 & 2
Students learnt about days of the week, seasons and months of the year this term. They applied this knowledge to create their own calendar. Students added information such as their ‘anniversaire’ – ‘birthday’ and significant cultural events for their family such as ‘Noël’ and ‘Hanoucca’. They created simple greeting cards with teacher support to give to family members or friends.
Foundation
Students learnt to ask someone how they are using vocabulary such as ça va?, ça va bien, etc. through a range of play-based activities. They developed their knowledge of language related to celebrations such as L’Halloween and Noël. Students learned how to sing Joyeux Anniversaire and explored the song C’est L’Halloween. They also discovered the song and actions for Bébé Requin (Baby Shark) and some simple vocabulary related to family, such as maman (mum) and papa (dad).
Je vous souhaite de passer une bonne fin d'année! Wishing you all a happy end to the year!
À 2022!
