Australian String Quartet at The Hamilton and Alexandra College

What a pleasure it was to invite the College community and the districts music loving public into the Kantor Family Music and Performing Arts Centre on Sunday.  The Australian String Quartet delivered a perfect Sunday afternoon smorgasbord of String quartet repertoire.  Each member of the quartet took turns to take us inside the world of each composer and inside the world of the performers as they delivered movements of quartets from Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Verdi and Britten.  Each of the performers then offered musical advice to our young performers, culminating with our Senior String Quartet getting one on one advice from the Australian String Quartet: that’s a very special teacher to student ratio.

Our audience is now completely au fait with the new norm of attending concerts in public venues, and I’d like to thank the audience for making it so easy for us to manage.  We look forward to the ASQ returning for concerts in Dunkeld in April and extending the collaboration with The Hamilton and Alexandra College.

Our Year 7 students completed the Instrumental Music Program on Tuesday with a very successful recording session in the Simons Auditorium.  Watch out for our performance of the classic Star Wars.  The students have now ‘stepped up’ to Year 8 and we look forward to their continued music journey as they progress through the College.  To finish the term and a very big year we look forward to sharing with you the Junior School Speech Day celebrations on Monday at 12.30pm in the Simons Auditorium, and the College Christmas Service on Tuesday at 2pm. A reminder that instrumental lessons will conclude with the end of term and any change of music enrolment for 2022 should be communicated with the music office asap.
