Excursions and Events

Level 2 CSIRO Incursion
Our focus in Years 1 and 2 for Integrated Studies this Term is a chemical science unit entitled ‘All Mixed Up’. We have been experimenting with a range of mixtures and exploring their uses and properties.
On Thursday, 22 August CSIRO Education visited our school. They presented an interactive science program with the theme MIXING AND CHANGING. Mick from CSIRO ensured this was an exciting experience.
This incursion complemented the innovative attitude that we have at Ormond in our approach to science. We are always looking for new and exciting ways to introduce scientific concepts to our students. Have a look at our images from the day.

Year 3 Camp - The Briars
Seventy-two Year 3 students enjoyed an action packed camp at The Briars, Mount Martha. They arrived bright eyed and eager. Throughout the two days they worked in teams to build bush huts, rescue a teddy, cook damper, manoeuvre through the low ropes course and board the flying fox. A night walk with a visit from Elmo was a highlight! All arrived home safely, albeit rather tired and may I suggest, with the same clothes on as they left in!
A huge thank you to all the staff who attended, Effie, Kim, Galina, Michael, Andrew and Zac. Your time and effort is much appreciated to make the camp run smoothly.
“The flying fox was a great activity on camp. We were so excited. It was a little high and we were a bit nervous. But, we fought our fears and tried it. It was so much fun.” Oscar and Lachlan 3A
“It was very difficult to get to sleep because I had never slept in a sleeping bag!” Michael 3B
“Making damper was a new experience.” Georgia 3B
“The low ropes course was one of several activities that stayed in my mind because it was so exciting and it helps you get better balance.” Laura 3C
“I enjoyed the hut building because it taught me how important teamwork and co-operation is.” Bharath 3C
