Tournament of the Minds

On Saturday 17th August 21 Grade 5 & 6 girls went to Deakin University in Burwood to represent Ormond Primary School at the Tournament of Minds Challenge. We had three teams competing, The Mini Moos, The Marvellous Creations and The Bubblegum Bombs. We are all very proud of our performances. We would like to thank Ms Fraser and Mrs Stanley for helping us go all the way.

Debating Team

Last Thursday, three debating teams left Ormond Primary School to go to Brighton Secondary for a divisional debating competition. Ormond's debating Team 1, was made up of Chloe Swan, Miles Sellenger and Luciana Martinez. Team 2 consisted of Sienna Beaves, Anna Chapman and Imogen Doherty-Brown, while Team 3 included Annie Nicola, Maya Hammam and Chloe Woodburn.

There were four rounds altogether, including the Final. Each team had different topics per round, depending on their opposition. All three of Ormond's team won their first rounds. Unfortunately, Team 2 was knocked out in round 2 with the topic ' Australia is a Racist Country - affirmative'

Teams 1 and 3 continued on to the semi-finals, with which they both won. Sadly, Team 1 was knocked out by only one point as three teams were competing to be in the finals. Despite the disappointment, we still had hope that Team 3 could bring it home for Ormond.

After a quick rehearsal, and a pep-talk from Mrs Shulman, it was time to face the music. Team 3 gave it all they had left, and surprisingly not one of the members lost their voice. The suspense was building while the adjudicators finalised the scores, and then finally they announced the winners. WE HAD WON!

On behalf of all the teams, we would like to thank parents Linda Nicola and Hilton Swan for helping with Team transport and for being great cheerleaders. Thank you also to Mrs Shulman for her motivation, encouragement and supervision.

The bar has been set high for next year so we wish the students luck
