Colour Run Thank You

What an awesome day on Wednesday March 6 to celebrate our Preps first full week at school. Our Colour Run4Fun was a great day of laughs and smiles.

Thank you to all the many parent helpers and especially to the PFA and Avril Smith for organising and running the event. At this stage, we appear to have raised over $12,000 for projects to improve our outside play spaces! A huge thanks also to the generous family, friends, neighbours and community members who have contributed.

Would you like to be a part of the PFA and get involved in organising and running events like this? Contact Avril by leaving your details at the office to find out when they next meet.

Design @ RNPS

We were thrilled today to have a visit from two representatives of 'Design and Technologies Teachers Association' (DATTA) today, who came to present a special award to 5 wonderful Year 6 students for winning a prize in the 'So You Think You Can Design' competition.

Late last year, a group of students entered their design for a special drone to combat issues associated with the drought. Their entry was awarded the 'People's Choice' award - being the most popular choice among 10 finalists from around Australia. All other finalists were high school entrants.

It was an amazing achievement and the students can be very proud of their efforts. Well done to Calais, Taysha, Abbey, Teahna and Tara for their brilliant innovation.

A big congratulations, too, to Eliza McGregor who was invited to speak yesterday on a panel for the Dare 2 be Different organisation. Eliza attended a D2BD event last year where a small group of female students were introduced to motor sports through a Go-Karting experience with experts in motor racing and TV sports broadcasting. The girls had an awesome experience and Eliza impressed D2BD with her discussion of the topics, prompting them to invite her back to speak more to a room full of adults about her views on female leaders and role models.

Our Production Team!

Many students today were informed of their roles in the upcoming school production, Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies. I was privileged enough to be able to view some of the auditions and I was so impressed with the level of performance but even more so with the level of commitment: every student went out ready to take a risk and do what was required for the role, rather than being self-conscious and embarrassed.

There are big roles, small roles, individual roles, group roles ... there are a lot of people working together towards a common goal of creating an evening of great joy and entertainment. I spoke to the children today about seeing the production as being part of a team - because the hard work starts here for the team. I hope that every child who has stepped forward to be part of production is proud of their efforts so far and recognises that their role as part of a team is a special moment for them.

Something I read recently that resonated with me from an article by Western Australia Swimming:

To become a part of a team is a privilege and honour.  A team lifts and elevates the performance of an individual to heights never before achieved.

I am so proud of our students already and look forward to seeing the team power forward through their MANY rehearsals ahead until the curtains are raised. Congratulations everyone!
