playing their part

If you go way back there, take my hand don’t despair,

And no matter what you do remember, we’re there for you.

The Brunswick Voices  recently joined forces with some of Melbourne’s leading choirs to participate in a program to raise awareness for homelessness among those of our community.

Coming together in Abbotsford were singers from the Star Chorale, Tudor Choristers, and Melbourne Gay & Lesbian Chorus who along with our students formed the Playing Our Part Choir. Together, they recorded There For You, a piece written by Peter Barber and arranged by Dr Kathleen McGuire and Craig Pilkington.

The lyrics and message of this song are universal, as you see in the excerpt here.  Our students were really  engaged with the message and  so were able  to approach this opportunity with both maturity and enthusiasm. I was really proud of how the students represented BSC, singing alongside experienced singers that ranged in age from early twenties right up to those  in their seventies! It was the first time the  'super'-choir had sung together and the students really rose to the occasion. It was also great to see many parents attend the recording adn share the experience - many  commenting on how amazing the group sounded.

There for You will be available for purchase following a formal launch later this year. Stay tuned for how you can contribute!

I really enjoyed the opportunity to record a song, and see what goes into it. It was really great to see behind the scenes of a project like this. It is also for a wonderful cause.

It was fun to sing somewhere with such good acoustics, and to sing in a bigger group too! I enjoyed being able to sing with my friends.

Year 9

I enjoyed being a part of the Playing our Part Choir because it was interesting to learn the process that goes into making and preparing a song and to then record it. I found the way they recorded the song was very interesting and how we had to do 12 takes to complete it.
