Out and About

Annual Peninsula Chess Championship
The interschool chess competition was held at Mornington Secondary College on Friday, 7 September. Public and private schools from around the region sent teams of twelve players to compete for the Peninsula Region Chess Championship trophy. More than 400 matches were played on the day, and it gives me great pleasure to inform parents that the Frankston team completed the tournament with the highest score and was awarded first prize!
Our champions include our team captains James Campbell (Year 7C) and Matthew Coulter (Year 12) as well as Kyle Eichenberger (Year 8G), Branden Green (Year 10), Rueben Hollands (Year 8G), James Kim (Year 11), Ruslan Laishev (Year 7E), Lachlan Snowden (Year 8F), Baylin Trinder (Year 8G), Hayden Van Kuyk (Year 7C), Prokhor Veresov (Year 10) and Jacob Walters (Year 8H).
Relay For Life
During the September holidays myself and 25 other students from Frankston High were grateful to participate in the charity event Relay for Life. Relay for life is an event where you walk laps around an athletic track and get involved in many small activities to help raise money to support the Cancer Council and their research to cure cancer and help those who suffer the awful disease. This event went from 3pm in the afternoon and concluded at 11am the next day. I was able to get involved in many fun activities throughout the event. Some of my favourite highlights were the lip sync battle, midnight marathon and just hanging out with my mates. I had lots of fun doing this especially because it was for a good cause.
I am already looking forward to doing it again next year. I would like to say a huge thanks to Mrs Stevens who organised our school team and all the other teachers that came for their huge efforts and support for this event. Without them all of this couldn’t have been achieved.
Jaxon Fraser (Year 9)
Relay for Life was a great event to participate in on the first weekend of the holidays.
Many students from Frankston High School Sports Leadership and SLC formed a team for this event. Students would walk around Ballam Park Athletics Track for many hours through the night until the next morning in honour of those who have lost someone to cancer or is going through the fight against cancer at the moment. I thought it was a great event to participate in especially knowing it was for such a great cause. Throughout the night students participated in many events including a lip sync battle, Midnight Marathon and many more. Overall Relay for Life was a wonderful opportunity and I am excited to participate next year. We as a team are very proud of raising over $10,000.
