Welcome Picnic

This term students in Performing Arts learnt about different cultural dances from around the world for our Welcome Picnic.  Each year level focused on a different country and different dance elements.  Foundation students learnt about Vietnamese dancing using directional locomotive movement.

Year 1 focused on Chinese dancing.  This was incredibly hard as the music didn’t follow a constant beat like the other dances.  It also was about slow controlled movement.

Year 2 learnt about USA dances where they had two very different styles; the Hula and Line dancing.  Both came with challenge.  The Hula had the most choreography out of all the year levels while the Line Dancing had very repetitive movements.

Year 3 worked on Japanese dancing.  Students learnt about circular movement using repetition.  Year 4 explored Korean dance using the prop of a fan.  Year 5/6 created a high energy Indian dance using levels.

The event brought together the school community hopefully bringing old and new friends together. I look forward to another one next year.
