Clubs & Activities

This program is aimed at helping our students connect with school, find friends with similar interests and explore fun and exciting skills outside the classroom environment. The programs that we have running at GSSC are based on teacher and student interests; our staff enjoy sharing their hobbies and skills. Clubs and Activities are open to any student to attend, and students can attend a range of different clubs during the week.

Here is a description of the clubs and activities running in our program in 2023:

 

Anime Club: Students watch and share their favourite Japanese animated movies & TV shows.

 

Araujo Club: is intended to immerse students in the beautiful world of Geometry. They will explore the history of geometry, develop skills using a compass and ruler, investigate the origins of many mathematical concepts and the application of geometry in many fields including art and design.

 

Art Club: If you enjoy chilling and drawing or like to try different materials to create art come and join us in Art Club. Great opportunity to meet other arty people and share the art you are creating. It doesn't matter if are 'good' at art, as long as you enjoy creating art.

 

Auslan Club: Curious to learn sign language? Learn alongside others in a culturally safe space. You will be immersed In the language while playing signing games and activities. Non-spoken communication will be encouraged at all times. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come along regardless of your experience. Deaf and hearing students, with Auslan, will be there and ready to help and guide you.

 

AVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an in-school academic support program for grades seven through twelve. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for college eligibility and success.

 

Book Club: Discuss a book, comic, graphic novel and more with interested people. Book Club is a quiet space to find something you like to read.

 

Camera Club: In this club, we use professional cinema and photography cameras and lenses so you can visually express your ideas. We experiment with a range of lights, sound equipment, and have an excellent printer for your photographs.

 

Card Club: Are you tired of just playing Spoons and UNO?  Want to know different ways to entertain yourself with a simple deck of cards? There are hundreds of card games that have been developed across the world, so come and learn some new ways to play and meet some new people along the way.

 

Careers Club: Come to the Careers Club for assistance preparing resumes, support with job applications, cover letters and Tax File Numbers, meet and speak with employers, industry groups and tertiary providers, pathways, goal setting and planning for the 'next steps', interview tips, tricks and techniques and much more!

 

Chess Club: Learn how to play and test out your strategies with other players. Chess is a strategic game played on a square chess board of 64 squares. The object of the game is to 'checkmate' the opponent's king, whereby the king is under immediate attack (in "check") and there is no way for it to escape. There are also several ways a game can end in a draw.

 

Craft Club: Come along and learn how to knit, crochet or work with yarn. You may like to have a go at basic jewellery making, friendship bands etc. If you have something you would like to learn have a talk with Ms Gibbs and we can work out how it can be done.

 

Dance Club: Run DNC! Learn a range of dance routines to different music, and be prepared for all the dance battles in your life!

 

Dungeons and Dragons:  is a tabletop role-playing game where students create a character and interact with a fantasy medieval world. Through dice rolling and narrative story telling a world of unlimited possibilities unfolds for the group of adventurers.

 

Electronics Club Electronics: Students will be able to learn how to build and program electrical circuits, and apply those skills to more challenging activities

 

eSports: Students get to experience social gaming time with the opportunity for small competitions throughout the year.

 

Karate Club: Our club will practise the traditional JKA Shotokan style practiced throughout the education system in Japan. It is practiced in more than 100 countries worldwide. JKA (Japan Karate Association) is a non-aggressive self-defence martial art and is suitable to be practised by both children and adults. Karate helps to build self-confidence, self-discipline and leadership skills. It develops physical fitness, coordination, flexibility and general well-being.

 

Kpop Club: Learn dances to kpop songs, chat about Kpop, share favourite groups, talk about collectables, random dance play games. Even if students don't want to dance we also have many students who come regularly to club to listen to the music and talk Kpop with the group.

 

Lego Club:  Students can use their creativity and problem solving skills to create static builds using classic Lego or Lego Robots and Machines using the EV3 kits.

 

Pride Group: Students meet weekly for fun and support.

 

Rock Band: In Rock Band students have a chance to learn skills on guitar, bass guitar, drums, keyboard or vocals. We will be learning songs and riffs from a range of styles, catering to all skill levels.

 

Running Club: Join the Movement! Walk, jog or run. This is a great way to meet like-minded people and get fit and healthy. Sessions are designed to improve your running power, speed and mental resilience. It is challenging but gets you results. Meet at the gym in PE uniform and runners, and don't forget your drink bottle and hat!

 

Textiles Club: The Textiles club will come together to hand-make unique items, using a range of materials and equipment! Students will have an input as to what we create and can strengthen their skills by learning from one another. The Textiles Club provides students with the opportunity to connect with others who share a love for design and construction.
