Principal's message
May 2023
Each year all schools prepare an Annual Report to the School Community. The Annual Report provides principals and school councils with an opportunity to share the year’s achievements and progress with the school community. This includes reflecting on the school’s performance and explaining the impact of school improvement efforts on student outcomes.
Annual Reports are presented to the school community via a public meeting of the school council, and are published on the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) State Register.
We will be presenting our 2022 Annual Report at a public meeting of school council 6:00pm Thursday 25th May at LHCS Coburg.
In 2023, Australia will vote on whether to amend our Constitution to recognise our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. As part of this recognition, the change will enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to provide advice to the Parliament on policies and projects that impact their lives.
The Australian Education Union has expressed its support for the "Yes" campaign, stating they are "proud to support the Voice to Parliament – it’s a historic change that will start to deliver long overdue justice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia, and justice and solidarity has always been union business."
At Lynall Hall Community School we are committed to achieving quality educational outcomes for indigenous students and strive to create a culturally safe and inclusive environment.
I would like to officially welcome all new members of our school council and thank ongoing members for their continuing contribution. Our current school council members, joining me on school council this year, are :
Staff: Sascha Surgey, Noah Nischler, Alana Smith
Parent: Kelly Spiteri, Amanda Curtis, Rochelle Barnett, Tania Rose, Jacqui Castillo
Community: Tim Delaney, Steve Vaughan
Student: Kettle Norman, Ed Potter
I would especially like to acknowledge Kelly Spiteri, who has taken on the role of School Council President.
School councils may form subcommittees to assist the council in performing their duties and functions. Subcommittees are advisory bodies to the school council, and are generally established to support school council in specific areas. Subcommittee membership is open to non-school-council members.
We have an established finance subcommittee that oversees the schools financial matters and reports back to council meetings. This year we will also be forming a buidings and grounds subcommittee.
The purpose of the buildings and grounds subcommitee will be to advise council regarding two specific matters:
Each year on 12 May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth, is celebrated as International Nurses Day. In this tradition, we would like to acknowledge our own Florence Nightingale, our excellent school nurse, Tess! Students and staff appreciate the dedication, care and advice that Tess regularly provides at the school.
Reminder that our school's office hours are 8:30am - 4:00pm Monday to Friday. If you need to contact the school outside of these times, please email the school (lynall.hall.cs@education.vic.gov.au), email the relevant staff member, or leave a voice message. Voice messages on the school phone are checked every weekday morning.
