DTF Victoria: Mentoring Women program VCE stream

Applications close 29 May 2023

The Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) is committed to increasing awareness of career opportunities in economics and building the pipeline of talented economists.

Their Mentoring Women program provides an opportunity for women and gender diverse people interested in studying economics and policy to connect with passionate mentors at DTF. Details about the 2023 Mentoring Women – VCE stream can be found below and here.

About the program

The Mentoring Women Program is a six-month program that provides an opportunity for women and gender-diverse students in Years 11 and 12 to connect with enthusiastic economists at DTF. Student mentees do not need to be studying economics to participate in the program but should have a genuine interest in exploring what a career in economics and public policy might look like for them.

In the program, high-school students participate in small group mentoring sessions with economists from DTF. Students also have an opportunity to network with other program participants at a number of learning and development sessions on topical economic issues.

The program welcomes applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds, including students who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or come from linguistically diverse households, LGBTIQ+ students, students with disability and students from regional Victoria.

The 2023 program will run from 17 July 2023 and finish the week of 20 November 2023. Applications close on Friday 29 May 2023. Interested students can apply here and have their questions answered by contacting mentoringwomen@dtf.vic.gov.au

Science Gallery Melbourne Term 1

STEAM Careers Online Forum: Social Change – recording now available

Each term, Science Gallery Melbourne introduces students to inspiring people who work to solve some of our most pressing global and local challenges that we as a community face. Students hear not only about career journeys and industry connections, but how these professionals work across science, technology, engineering, arts and maths and use a range of transferable skills in the ways they work to make a difference in the world. The first STEAM Careers Forum of 2023 focussed on transdisciplinary careers relating to social change. Inspired by the BREAK THE BINARIES exhibition, this forum celebrates those in our society who are breaking the mould and making our local and global communities a better place for all. The recording of the Term 1 event is now available using the below access details:
