Fun Run

Today's F-2 Fun Run was lively, with numerous students donning colourful, wacky socks to run around the track. Amazingly, many students ran continuously without any breaks and I anticipate they will be exhausted tonight! I look forward to tomorrow's Yr 3-6 Fun Run. I'm excited to see what socks they wear and how many laps they complete. One of the highlights of this morning was observing the enthusiastic involvement of numerous parents who supported the students. Conducting the tour for prospective parents and enabling them to witness the Fun Run proved an excellent way to showcase our school. We thank Mrs Berardini and her team for the coordination and organisation of the event.

Sound Waves Spelling

Our staff attended a professional learning session yesterday evening, which focused on implementing the Sound Waves approach to teaching spelling. The Sound Waves Spelling program is aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and grounded in the latest scientific research on the most effective ways for students to acquire spelling and reading skills. At the core of the Sound Waves Spelling, students learn about speech sounds (phonemes) and the different letters (graphemes) representing these sounds in writing.  As part of this learning, students are also taught to segment words into individual sounds (a prerequisite for spelling) and blend sounds to form words (a prerequisite for reading). Your child also has access to the Student page. Ask your child's teacher for the class code.

The day the chairs quit!

While taking a tour today, I came across an interesting sight. The year 5 and 6 rooms had chairs wrapped up in tape with a sign 'We quit'. Watch the school's Facebook page to find out more about what happened and how the year 5 and 6 students plan to get the chairs back to doing their regular job in the classroom.

Working Bee

The School Council's Facilities Sub Committee has scheduled a Working Bee for Friday, May 26, from 4 to 6 pm. We are experimenting with this day and time to determine if families can more easily participate in activities like garden bed maintenance, mulch spreading, vegetable patch maintenance, and chicken coop cleaning. The Working Bee is an excellent opportunity for students to learn about civic responsibility and pride in their school by giving back and caring for it. Families should bring garden gloves, tools, and a positive attitude. Those participating in the Working Bee can enjoy a sausage sizzle at the end of the event.

AFL Girls Gala Day

Congratulations to our fabulous senior girl's football team for representing the school during last week's AFL Gala Day!! Thank you to Mrs Carbone & parent helpers for their encouragement and team support.

A big thank you to the Year 3 and 4 students who have shared their comic strip holiday recounts on the From the Classroom page in this week's newsletter. We encourage everyone to take a moment and enjoy reading their contributions.

Have a great week,

Ms Garrity (Acting Principal)
