Classroom Happenings

The Prep, 1s and 2s day at La Trobe University Wildlife Sanctuary

Nangak Tamboree (nan-nyack tam-bor-ee) means respecting/sharing/looking after the waterway in Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people.

Nangak Tamboree is a very special space on the Melbourne Campus of La Trobe University. A living laboratory for students, staff and the wider community, its waterways connect with the local creeks, attract wildlife and support native flora. https://www.latrobe.edu.au/future-city/about/nangak-tamboree

On Tuesday the Prep, Year 1s and 2s went to La Trobe University Wildlife Sanctuary. We went in 3 groups and there were 4 activities with some fun, exciting ones. The reason we went there is because our Inquiry Unit is about ‘A Bug’s Life’.

I LIKE BUGS!

I know one of the teachers was Clara because she was in charge of my group and she had a name tag.

On Tuesday we went on an excursion on a bus.

I liked it!

We all made a nest box and went on a Wilderness Walk.

We saw water bugs and we played games.

Everyone loved it and I loved it too.

I had a great day at the Sanctuary.

Last Tuesday all the Preps, 1s and 1s went on an excursion. I saw a kangaroo scratching another kangaroo. I also saw a 500 year old tree. It was amazing!

We got into groups and we made nest boxes. My group made the first nest box. We were with Mrs Cumming. My favourite group was the group where we had to catch water bugs. I caught a backswimmer, a leech, a blood worm and finally a water spider! The backswimmer swims fast and it swims on its back.

We also saw a kangaroo hit another kangaroo and it was so funny that I laughed!
