Digital Photography classes

Discovering dark room secrets

Nine Fairhills students took the opportunity to take part in a digital photography class during term three. The following article was featured in the recent December issue of the Ferntree Gully News.

"It was fun and educational", say the nine students from Fairhills High School who had a go at learning digital photography during term three. Together with Knox Photographic Society (KPS) and Mountain District Learning Centre, the young people learned about aperture, shutter speed, depth of field, and light, as well as tripods, lenses, umbrellas and flash.

As can be seen in these photos, the painting with light activity was a lot of fun. It’s done in a dark room with a slow shutter speed and a torch. One person ‘paints’ an image with the torch while the other person takes the photo.

‘We also liked photographing the musical instruments using the silhouette technique’ they said. MDLC and the students want to thank Knox Photographic Society and Fairhills School for their involvement in this project. They loved it!

The words and pictures project has been supported by a grant from the Knox Council Community Development Fund.
