Protecting Young People Online

Supporting young people to safely negotiate the complexities of the “cyber world” is a challenge faced by all parents and carers.

Mid Semester Reports & Parent Teacher interviews.

Wednesday the 7 September from 4pm-7pm will be our parent teacher interviews. Staff will complete the mid semester reports and the reports will be sent home with students at the very end of August. We will then allow bookings for parent teacher interviews via SMT. All of the interviews will be held at the BRC campus and more details will be provided closer to the date

Naplan Results

Our 2016 Naplan Results have just been released. Overall the results have been very pleasing. We have a focus on the growth of our students between year 7 and year 9 and this year our results were equal to or better than like schools across the board. Added to that we had outstanding growth in Reading, Writing and Grammar & Punctuation recording very strong results. Over the coming weeks we will delve into the depths of the data and it will be used to inform our teaching over the remainder of the year. Individual results will be provided to families in hardcopy in with the school interim report with a letter of explanation. Added to this, we will provide electronic copies via SMT parent portal in the reports section. We would encourage parents & carers to look at this data with their students. It can serve as a conversation starter about where students are with their learning and it’s a chance to celebrate success or plan ways to improve. It is true that Naplan results do not define who you are but they do provide a useful snapshot on progress over 2 years.

National Science Week

August has seen Science week being celebrated around the country between 13-21 August. The theme this year is drones droids and robots. This theme centres around the real world applications of autonomous technology in a range of areas. This has reached into many high end applications with heavy machinery in mining and manufacturing as well as remote us of robots in surgery in medicine through to exploration of inhospitable environment such as deep space and the deep ocean. If you are interested there are loads of resources and linked to this available at http://www.scienceweek.net.au/
