Year 3/4 News

What a Term!

As Term One comes to a close we can reflect on our students and what a busy time it has been. Congratulations to all the students for the way they have eased into the term and we are proud of each and every one of them. Some of the highlights have been, the completion of the new playground and being able to play on it, yoga and meditation incursion and the start of Problem Based Learning, just to name a few.

We look forward to many more highlights next term!!

Practising Hygiene

In Year 3/4 , we have been discussing the importance of hygiene in everyday life, especially in light of what is happening in our world at the moment.

We ensure that the students wash their hands before eating and after lunch and recess and remind the students to wash their hands after going to the toilet. The students will tell you that washing their hands needs to last 2 rounds of 'Happy Birthday'. We also have hand sanitiser in every homeroom to use whenever needed.

Yoga Incursion

Last Thursday, as part of PBL and Wellbeing we had Ayami Urli come in and instruct us in yoga and meditation. We talked about the importance of being present in the moment and to look after ourselves mentally as well as physically. We practised Mindful sitting which we will practise in the homerooms regularly. We also participated in breathing exercises to help calm us down. Thank you to Ayami for coming in!!!

Learning Intentions

We encourage you to have a look through our Learning Intentions to find out what Year 3/4 students will be learning this fortnight.

Essential Assessment

Differentiated, Personalised, Online Curriculum and Learning

My Numeracy: is dependent on a student’s pre-assessment results. Once a pre-assessment has been completed, the Essential Assessment program automatically creates a differentiated and personalised online curriculum for each student, based on the content descriptors misunderstood throughout an assessment. Each content descriptor has twenty (20) questions attached to it. Making up the 20 questions are five questions per proficiency- understanding, problem solving, fluency and reasoning.

Sunset Maths: We outlined our use of Sunset Maths in the last fortnight newsletter as a program which is aimed at developing each student’s mental maths skills in the four operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division – from each student’s current understanding. We encourage students to continue to use Sunset Maths at home this next fortnight and also during the holidays.

The video below shows just how easy it is to use Sunset Maths at home!

Homework Expectations

We would like to congratulate all children for their great efforts in completing weekly homework tasks. We have noted that children are reading more frequently and we encourage children to continue to select reading materials for personal enjoyment. We remind all parents to please sign their child's diary and spelling work. It is important for us to see that you have sighted their work. Just a friendly reminder of what spelling homework and diaries should look like once completed.
