Year 1/2 News

Week 6 & 7 Recap
At a time where our health fears are escalating, we are well aware of the importance of teaching our students appropriate hygiene practices within our school. Students have been regularly washing their hands after eating, playing and Investigating and we have hand sanitisers readily available in all learning spaces. They are becoming aware of their own personal sanitation and how the spread of germs can affect those around us. These current health issues form a natural link to our Inquiry Unit of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Students have been investigating the spread of germs and creating germ characters, like Gary The Germ.
Last week was the long awaited reveal of our new playground. The students have been so excited to explore their new play space. We introduced the new playground with important messages around safe play, fair play and respect of new equipment. It has been an absolute winner this fortnight, particularly the tunnel slide!
Our outdoor learning space has had a new upgrade the past fortnight by students. We now have a new fairy garden, complete with fencing, paths, fairy school and fresh herbal forest. During Investigations, students have cleared the garden bed and put in seasonal plants.
SMART Spelling
Well done to all students for a great effort with homework this Term. It is very much appreciated that our classroom learning is extended and supported at home. For clarification, we introduce a new graph, digraph or trigraph every week and rotate with revision on the fourth week. We have introduced students to BOB (back of book) words that they select from their writing books. These BOB words are words that your child frequently misspells in their writing pieces and are not related to spelling digraphs. Students will now be selecting 6 new spelling words and 2 BOB words each week to practise at home.
A Few Friendly Reminders
Thank you to all who have contributed to our Collage Construction Areas with recycled items. The students have put these items to good use, creating and inventing masterpieces. To enhance our Tinkering Areas, we are always on the lookout for items that the students can tinker, pull apart, put back together, screw and unscrew. Items that would otherwise be thrown out because they are broken can be put to good use by the students.
