Aquatic Education 2018
Our Aquatic Education program has been completed for another year. It was wonderful to see all students in the water throughout the program, improving on their swimming skills and abilities, and also enjoying themselves in their squads at school. Their confidence in the water would've improved as well, with thanks going to all the parents who were able to come along and support the children in the water.
The Junior Lifeguard squad were fortunate enough to have a nice sunny day greet them for the trip to Sandridge Beach, where they were able to participate in water safety skills as well as beach games.
I look forward to hearing all of the stories about the students using their swimming skills throughout the summer holidays.
School Sports Fun Day
Take 3 of our School Sports Fun Day meant we were finally able to commence proceedings, however it wasn't with intervention from the weather, yet again!
With a new location on the school grounds, we were fortunate enough to have a great amount of shelter in the event of rain falling, and we were made to use this numerous times. Being typical Melbourne, the rain clouds lifted after lunchtime, and a sunny afternoon appeared, which enabled all the students to finish their activities off and continue to earn points for their houses. It was fantastic to hear all the chanting and support going on throughout the day!
Following a break for recess, the rain reappeared, however it wasn't enough to stop our Grade 6 students from competing in the Alan Smith Dash, with congratulations going to Christian Ganino for a commanding win.
Our awards ceremony followed, with presentations being made to out best and fairest winners from 5/6 Winter Interschool Sport, Sportsperson of the Year, Aggregate House Winner and Team Spirit Winner. Congratulations to Burke for being our Aggregate House Winner (first time since 2012) and to Flinders for winning the Team Spirit Award.
A big thank you to all of the students for their eagerness and willingness to push through the weather conditions, the staff for their support and assistance with the events, and all the parents and friends for coming along to witness the days events. Also to our 2018 House Captains, who did a magnificent job in leading their houses on the day. Below are the final standings: (Aggregate Total/Team Spirit Total)
Burke: 587/128
Cook: 561/95
Bass: 555/103
Flinders: 543/132
Pictured below are Burke House Captains Ben Sauro and Sienna Liberatore with the Aggregate House Champion Trophy for 2018.
Sportsperson of the Year
Each year, we present an award to a Grade 6 student for their fantastic sportsmanship and commitment towards sporting performances at St Raphael's. This award is voted on by their peers in Grade 5/6. Our winner for 2018 is Jessica Collins, who represented St Raphael's in 5/6 Winter Interschool Sport, Cross Country, Hooptime and Athletics. During the Athletics Competition, Jessica made it to the Northern Regional Finals, where she finished 8th in her High Jump Event.
