ELC Runs Away to the Circus
On Friday 28 October all Kilvington ELC children, educators and parent helpers travelled to Collingwood to see a Melbourne Symphony Orchestra collaboration with Circus Oz.
The performance titled MSO Runs Away to the Circus was an absolute treat. Every child sat completely engaged in the 50 minute show. We were entertained by a 40-piece orchestra who played to circus acts that made us laugh and gasp. It was funny, entertaining and educational. It was an experience I don’t think any of us will forget. The children were so beautifully well behaved – they were all a credit to the School and themselves.
The bus trip home was quiet which wasn’t surprising given many of our gorgeous younger ELC students were sound asleep!
Swannie Awards – Debating
The Swannie Award is an annual award presented by the Debaters Association of Victoria that recognises the best speakers in every region from all over the state. Throughout the season, Kilvington competed in the Ormond region, with debates held on a Wednesday night in the MSC building against four other schools from the area.
Three out of the four Swannie awards were presented to Kilvington, with Siobhan Thomas in the A grade division and Gemma Webb and myself in the C grade division. Siobhan was also nominated for the state-wide Swannie, the award for the highest average score in the state which was a huge achievement. Debating this year was a lot of fun and the improvement by the whole team was clear to see. The year was topped off with a pizza lunch where everyone’s enormous efforts throughout the year was celebrated.
We are looking forward to another successful season next year.

Senior Soiree Years 7 and 8
A musical feast was experienced by all who attended the Years 7 and 8 Soiree in the music centre on Wednesday October 26. All performances were of a very high calibre and the students performed with great enthusiasm. A feature of the evening was the vocal performances of Georgia on My Mind, The Water is Wide, Smile and Tears in Heaven.
These performances were easily matched by a number of well-presented speech and drama presentations as well as some fine instrumental performances on strings, percussion and piano.
