Year 7 Melbourne Camp

Year 7 have had a brilliant start to their Melbourne camp. From a very thought provoking talk on perspectives from The Intersection, to a thrilling experience at the Skydeck with many students trying The Edge. The final amazing moment of the first day had to be the girls overwhelming win over the boys (Mr Zeunert's team) with a $10 wow item challenge. Honestly the victory was never really in doubt...

The students also had the incredible honour of hearing a local Hamilton woman, Melissa Tapper, speak at the Australian Sport Museum. Melissa is the only person in Australia to ever qualify multiple times for the Para Olympics and Olympics. Melissa is a Table Tennis champion and we were all fascinated listening to her stories of resilience, hard work and life in an Olympic village. She even let some students wear part of her uniform and her medal!

Year 9/10 Forensic Science - Police Visit

Don’t be alarmed! Two officers from the Crime Investigation Unit from Warrnambool Police visited the Year 9/10 Forensic Science Elective Class on Wednesday last week. They spent about an hour and a half discussing what they do to record evidence at crime scenes and giving the students first-hand experience at dusting for fingerprints off different objects and surfaces.

The students were involved enthusiastically throughout the experience and were very interested in the processes that were demonstrated. They asked many questions about crime scenes and the regalia they have to wear - many questions relating to the guns they carry and other methods they use to protect us from dangerous criminals. All students (and teacher) put on the Kevlar vest and were amazed at the weight of it.

The class are very appreciative of the efforts of Senior Police Constable Shannon Kavenagh and Sergeant Peta Blackett-Smith, to make the effort and find time to visit the class and show them how forensics happens in reality, and the way they go about trying to solve crimes.
