Junior School

Prep
The Prep students have loved their first few weeks of school! They are enjoying learning about letters and numbers through fun activities. They were also very excited about the TV we got to replace our old projector!

Year 1
The students in Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed listening to stories, always giving their full attention as they become absorbed in the adventures of the story. Recently we read Sylvie, a story of a Flamingo who changed colour according to the food she ate. As a reading activity, the Year 1 class had fun deciding what food Sylvie ate and what colour she would become. They have also been creative with their numbers, using different materials to form numbers up to 20.

Year 2
The Year 2 students have had another great week together as we dove into our Place Value unit and created a ‘Place Value Zoo’, wrapped up Recount Writing with the creation of a comic strip of ‘The Best Day Ever’, played some games, and experimented with magic watercolour painting.

Year 5
Year 5 students have had a stimulating week. They have written magical stories, excelled in their maths graph book work and brought daily joy to Mrs Iles. In STEM, students were challenged to get a toy car to move (with continuously rolling wheels) without touching it with any part of their body. Students enjoyed problem solving and working together as a team.

Year 6
Year 6 have been learning so much over the last two weeks. We are studying life in the early 20th century, prime and composite numbers, creating bike safety songs and choreographing them and reading about life for others after war. While some inspiring moments have occurred in many subjects, some of the most fun have been in STEM.
In STEM, we have learned how to follow step by step instructions to create some awesome drawings of chairs, motorcycles and cars. We have also had lessons in basic coding using LEGO blocks to create a maze and then getting others to follow the coding directions we made to help their little figure get through the maze. Some very creative paths were devised.
We also got to celebrate with Calvin as the winners of the House Swimming Carnival where Tilly and Micah, Calvin Junior School Captains, accepted the shield on behalf of their house. We also proudly applauded Will and Lottie as the champions of their age group.
