From the Principal

Dear parents and friends

I hope this newsletter finds you well. Lots has been happening at school this week. Please take some time to read the newsletter and take note of upcoming events.

Parents' Association

Our Parent's Association (PA) conducted their first meeting for the year on Tuesday evening. It was a great turn out with many new faces. During the meeting the parents did some organising for the Family BBQ/Picnic taking place next week. They also discussed the Easter raffle and the Mothers' Day Stall. A very productive meeting! If you would like to join this group, please contact Elaine Archibald elaine.m.archibald@gmail.com

2023 PA Committee

Tina Lui, Anusha Fernando, Yiran Connell (Treasurer), Steven Connell, Dash Thevarajah (Secretary and Vice President), Rachel Gillespie, Penny Mafole, Christine Zhao, Lauren Margaritis, Sankari Parvathinathan, Parvatharaj Maharajan, Elaine Archibald (President), Evelyn Lee, Anthony Tran.

Traffic

Please note that between 8:30am - 9:00am and 3:30pm - 4:00pm, it is illegal to turn right into Blackburn Road from Doon Ave. Doing this not only impedes the flow of traffic but is also extremely dangerous.

We have also noticed that the car park is congested at pick up time on Mondays and Thursdays when the Tennis Club also has things on. We ask that you drive with caution and  exercise patience when driving through the school. We are currently looking into ways to improve the flow of traffic at these times.

Collingwood Visit

On Tuesday we had a visit from Taylor Adams from the Collingwood Football Club. Taylor and other staff from the AFL conducted a football clinic with each class. Students took part in some fun training drills.

Open Day

On Tuesday we had the first of three open days. This was well attended and visitors to our school were impressed with the way our students were engaged in their learning. A special thanks to our school captains Sebastian, Talitha, Elisha and Colin for clearly sharing information about our school.

ENROLMENTS

If you have a child that is due to start school next year, please contact the office for an enrolment form.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN testing will commence next week. It is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year.  Naplan allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress. Please read the article below regarding Dr Justin Coulson's review of NAPLAN.

SCHOOL PICNIC - Friday 17th March

Next Friday after school we are having a school family BBQ. We hope to see everyone there. See the flyer below. If you can assist with the BBQ, please add your name to the attached roster.

Construction

Some of you would have noticed the construction taking place at school this morning. We are having a weather proof structure built over part of the artificial turf area. This is predominantly funded by a government grant and will provide students with an outdoor space to utilise on hot sunny days or when it is raining. The footings have been prepared today and the installtion will take place on another day soon.
