From the Head of Sport

Welcome back to what is going to be a very busy year on the sporting field. Term 1 tends to be our busiest term and both parents and students need to ensure that they are regularly checking emails and Team App for important information regarding carnivals and ISA sporting events. If parents are not receiving sporting emails can you please email me on mharris@bmgs.nsw.edu.au so that your email address can be checked.

The year started with some of our basketball players in camp before heading off to Newington College to compete in the Newington Challenge. Thank you to Mr Quilter and coach Ms Dominika Offner for the time they put into preparing the boys for this tournament.

Summer sport commences this week so now is the time to remind students of the School sport uniform policy. In summertime students are permitted to leave training in their sports gear as long as they have their School (Yellow) polo and sports shorts on. This may include the BMGS Basketball shorts. All other combinations of clothing will require students to change back into FULL school uniform.

Students need to be regularly checking the screens around the school as announcements for trials will appear on these. This is particularly important for events that do not fall under the ISA banner.

If you play a sport outside the school in which you are at a representative level, please send me an email as there may be a pathway for school representation through CIS.

Good luck to all our summer teams as they progress towards the final series.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Will Zakis (Year 12) who participated in the All Schools Athletics Championships, which took place just prior to Christmas.  Will competed in the Steeplechase, setting a PB in very difficult conditions (34.9 degrees with winds gusting up to 40km/hr).  Given the Steeplechase is not an event which Will specifically trains for, this was an excellent achievement, and a wonderful experience competition against other elite athletes from around Australia.

NSW All Schools Triathlon

Triathlon entries are now open to students in Years 7 to 12. If you are interested in competing as an individual and/or in a team please see or email Mrs Harris as soon as possible. Entries close to me on 10th February. If you are passing my office there is a clipboard on the bench where you can list your team.
