Junior School

The Junior School has had a lovely, settled start to the school year. It’s been wonderful to welcome all of our new families, dotted across all classes on both campuses. Of course, many of our new students are in Pre-K and Kindergarten and are starting their school journey right at the beginning. We count it a privilege to teach your children and watch them grow and learn.

This week, on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, representatives from our Parents and Friends associations hosted “Cuppa and a Chat” for our parents at drop off time. It was great to connect with our parents, new and old, and welcome them to the school community. We look forward to picnics on both campuses this term which we hope lots of families will be able to attend. Communications around these events will be sent to parents soon.

For 2023 our class names have been inspired by Dharug language. Teachers have thought carefully about words that would represent the things that are important to each class. Thank you to Mrs Smith in the Senior School who has helped us navigate our learning of this ancient language. We look forward to learning new things about the words, the animals and ideas that have inspired our class names. We’ll all be on a journey to remember all the new names and we’ll be working on our pronunciation!

I look forward to seeing most parents next week at the Parent Information evenings at Wentworth Falls (Monday, 6th February) and Springwood (Wednesday, 8th February). This will be a great chance to hear all about the learning that will take place in our classrooms this year, and importantly, you’ll hear all the “nuts and bolts” information that will have you in the know!

Week 1 Term 1

BMGS Swish played an awesome game against the Warriors. With Dillon away, I was their coach for the night and they totally stepped up to what I needed them to do to walk away with a comfortable win. We always had two brilliant defenders in place to really make the opposition work hard to get the ball down their end. The boys displayed excellent sportsmanship by not defending in their opposition’s half to give the opposition the chance to get the ball down their end. We also had to stop defending altogether in the last 15 minutes of the game. The boys won convincingly 34-4.

The BMGS Slam Dunks made a solid start to their first game of the year. The girls really got it together to walk away with 12 points on the board against an experienced and taller team. It was great to see a full team and to welcome Abbie Johnson into the Slam Dunks. She made an impressive start by scoring very quickly for the team. As always, the girls continue to show great determination and resilience by never giving up. The score certainly does not reflect their improvement as a team or their passion for the game. The Ballers won 46-12. Thanks to Raelene Lord for sharing her experience and her love of the game with the girls.

On Tuesday, 31st January the BMGS Stars started their new season in the Under 10s. Our numbers have exploded to the point where we now have had to create two teams. We now have BMGS Red and BMGS Blue. We welcome our new players, Michael Lynch, Hume Vivian, Mariella Cigana and Dane Illingworth. Once the coaching session was complete, BMGS Blue played first and they had a very competitive game. Harry, Hugo, Dane, Hume, Madeleine and Mariella all worked beautifully together and managed to walk away with a win. Their score was 8-6. The BMGS Red team had to do a lot more defending and it was hard to get the ball down their end. Sebastian N, Sebastian O, Jari, Christian, Alexander and Michael defended really well and jumped for the rebounds and were successful on most occasions. They ended up with a draw of 6-all.

I want to extend a special thanks to Jack Roberson (Year 12) and Billy Grima (Year 12), for assisting with our Friday coaching session last term. They coached the BMGS Swish while Dillon was away.
