Middle Unit -2/3

This week in Writing, students have been learning to write persuasively. They have been tuning into the way authors persuade their audience using persuasive language. Students have been focusing on developing ideas to persuade by engaging in lots of discussion and debate with their peers. They have had fun trying to convince their teachers by playing the game ‘Convince me!’

In Reading, students have been consolidating their knowledge of Summarising. They have been learning to give a summary of their reader books by focusing on the most important parts of the story.

Throughout our Numeracy lessons, we have been continuing to build on the student’s understanding of Place Value, including ordering numbers, and partitioning numbers into parts. Students had fun using balance scales to show that numbers can be pulled apart and renamed – for example, the number 35 can be 3 tens and 5 ones, or renamed to become 2 tens and 15 ones!

In Inquiry, students have been learning about Australia’s geography. We have looked at Australia’s position on a world map and talked about the continents. This week, students have been exploring Atlases, and used an index and grid references to locate special natural landmarks in Australia such as the Great Barrier Reef, Lake Eyre, and Uluru.
