Carlsruhe Annexe /

Main Campus - Year 4

Last Friday all of the Year 4 students had the opportunity to spend an exciting day together at the Carlsruhe Campus. CU2 were especially excited to catch the bus in the morning as it was the first time for them to be heading out there for a full day.

The weather was kind and fortunately was not too hot to take our lessons outside! All students explored the campus with an analytical eye as they undertook a mapping activity. They took on the task of locating particular landmarks by recording them on a map of the Carlsruhe campus using coordinates, applying their own key code. It was fantastic to observe them working in teams, discussing coordinates and how to locate a particular area in relation to specific landmarks.

During the day students also had the opportunity to take their Writer’s notebook outside to gain inspiration for some creative writing. The Writer’s notebook is a place where students may write anything that inspires them. It may be described as a mixture of a journal, scrapbook and diary where students collect ideas that can be utilised at a later date. A personal book of inspiration!

Below is an extract from Alexandra Letson’s (CU2) Writer’s notebook:

I’m sitting on the oval… The trees are blowing in the wind… Silence. As the children learn, the bugs roam free as they explore their amazing environment. Leaves blow as the wind takes them on an adventure. Silence… The sky is like an ocean, calm and still. The green, blue, white and tan hit my eyes as I stare… Silence.
