Foundation
Numeracy
The foundation students have been focusing on numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 in Numeracy. They have been exploring different ways to make these numbers as well as how to represent these numbers as numerals, collections and words. We have been working hard practicing our skills, working both independently and in groups to solve these problems.
Literacy
In Literacy, the foundation students have been focusing on learning the letter names and phonemes of S-A-T-P-I-N. We have been working hard to practising writing these letters and saying their phonemes too. Well done foundation students for showing the Teesdale school value of Excellence by trying your best and achieving learning goals in both Literacy and Numeracy this fortnight. Keep up the hard work!
Visual Art
During the last two weeks the junior students have completed their Peter Rabbit watercolour paintings. Juniors have also learnt about landscape paintings and worked in small groups to create a Beatrix Potter inspired piece of artwork. It was a pleasure to see the students working collaboratively to make a landscape that they were delighted with. The middle and senior school have competed their portrait of the leadership staff, and lots of students were keen to show them off. Their next task was to create a cubism portrait of their pet or classmate and the designs are looking fantastic.
Middle School News
Middle School Students have had a fantastic start to the year! All students have been able to set up the classroom expectations and follow these each day. It has been fantastic to see many students brining their diary in each morning with the home reading written in! Well done everybody.
Literacy:
This fortnight the middle school students are having a focus on celebrations and commemorations that we may take part in in Australia.
Students are also focusing on persuasive writing in text construction over the next few weeks with a specific focus on topic sentences and supporting details.
Numeracy:
This fortnight in numeracy students have been exploring the foundation of numbers and how we can represent these numbers in many different ways. This week it is all about expanding and renaming our numbers! Here is an expander that you could explore together at home!
Senior School News
Senior students have been enjoying practising for their School Athletics day which will be held in Week 8 at Don Wallace Reserve. Student’s have been practising High Jump, Hurdles, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot put and Discuss. We are very much looking forward to participating in all events on the day so we can collect points for our house sports.
Senior Design Technology - Save our Play Spaces
Tiny Town Project
A few years ago we introduced the Tiny Town area, a play space for everybody to play and imagine scenes for each cubby. Over time they have become very run-down and damaged. We are now working to fix them in a matter of weeks and any possible resource donations are welcome. Votes from Senior School A have said that the hospital becomes half hospital half vet, the police station stays as the police station, and cafe becomes general store. As the below pictures show they have become very picked apart and un-orderly. We have a limited time to create new, highly popular cubbies that won't fall apart.
Café
When the cafe was constructed it was very popular and used for imaginations around the school. It is of less use than ever. This is why we are going to fix it and convert it into an amazing space in a few weeks. Our class, and others have come up with some ideas such as: wooden food, new less breakable baskets, a drive thru window, and a new desk and tables with seating areas. We are open to any donations of these items or things that may be helpful.
Police Station
As all families know In Design and Technology in Senior School this term we are repairing the tiny town cubbies houses as from last year we had made the cubbies look fabulous but unfortunately they have broken down and have been damaged. In Senior School A we have voted and we have decided to replace the cubby houses with tables chair and furniture. In the police station cubby we have to fix all the dents, sign and sweep out all the bark. We are looking for any resources like chairs, tables, kids police toys, costumes or storage baskets/small shelves.
Hospital + Vet
As you know at Teesdale Primary School we are working on making the Tiny Town a lot better but I think you should know more about the hospital (well more like an abandoned hospital now!) As you can see in these photos the hospital is very run down but we are trying to change that. If you would like to donate or help that would be awesome. The tiny town is a place where not many people go now. It used to be very popular but not anymore. So if you can we would love it if you could make a donation of any type. We are looking for any toys for a hospital or Vet theme. Thank you for reading.
