Principal's Message

  Mrs Josie Crisara

Welcome to the 2023 school year. The start of the year has been very positive with excited students and staff.  At the beginning of the new year it is important to set the tone for a productive and  successful year for your children.  There are some key things that will help with this:

  • Establishing a routine that includes time for homework, studying and relaxation.
  • Setting some clear achievable goals where they approach each school day with excitement , a growth mindset and a positive outlook.
  • Staying organised so that tasks are completed on time.
  • Building relationships by making new friends and encouraging students to participate in the many cocurricular activities that are available to them at school.
  • Taking care of their physical and mental health by eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep and encouraging your children to speak up if they are stressed or overwhelmed.

By focusing on these you can help your children start the school year off on the right foot.

Strategy plan

Our new Strategy plan with a focus on ‘Inspiring your Personal Best’ is the culmination of input from students, parents, staff and alumni during last year .  There is alignment with our vision, mission and aims which are listed below and a summary copy of the strategy plan is attached.

The value of Excellence has been introduced and will be our theme for the year with an expectation that this infiltrates all we do in learning, behaviour, community outreach, communication, and environment.

School Wide Positive Behaviour Program

In both the primary and secondary school we have introduced our School Wide Positive Behaviour Program.  A school wide positive behaviour plan is an approach to promoting good behaviour among students, staff, and other members of the school community.  The goal of this plan is to create a positive supportive and safe learning environment for everyone which will allow student to thrive academically and socially.

The matrix was developed by our students in 2022. The statements were words and expectations by students around what good behaviour should look like.

Building Program

Our new building was partially opened and the new spaces have been excitedly utilized by the Cumberland students and staff.  It will take some time to fully utilise the great learning spaces available and we eagerly await the completion of the building. An official opening will occur in a few months and this will be an opportunity for the wider community to come and view the building. The Gym carpark was refurbished and new shade areas and playgrounds are being completed.
