Middle School Report

Welcome to our last newsletter for Term 3. There have been many events outside of the classroom over the last five weeks starting with the Year 9 Morrisby career assessments. In August, the students sat a career on line assessment, which involved a working through several aptitudes and interests’ sections. Last week the students then had a one on one interview with an external Careers Practitioner to review the results and discuss their future pathways. This was a successful process with several students addressing their results with teaching staff about this assessment. The hard copy report was given to each individual student to take home, so I encourage parents to look at this report and then have a conversation with your child about this.

The Year 9 and 10 students have completed their course selections for the 2020 school year. I would like to congratulate the students for the diligence they have shown during this process. While it is difficult for all students to know what their future pathways may be, the effort they have demonstrated thus far will give them the best opportunity going forward moving into Year 10 or the senior school.

Last week I had the pleasure of attending both Debutante balls. I would like to congratulate the students who participated and the wonderful job of how they behaved along with the way to prepare themselves for their big night. A big thank you to Andrea Coad, Lauren Gibson, Kerrie Logan and the numerous staff members who helped organise and supervise this event. A very big thank you must also go to Rhonda McDonald who was the students dance instructor.

During Term 4, the second group of Year 10 students will participate in the Work experience program from Monday the 21st until Friday 25th of October. The work experience program is a wonderful opportunity for students to obtain an understanding of employment in a field they have chosen, along with building employability skills. It is a school expectation that all Year 10 students complete this work experience program.

I am pleased to say that the Term 3 GPA results have shown improvement for most students resulting in a record number of GPA all-stars at both Year 9 and Year 10 levels; I encourage all students to keep improving their individual results.

Students are reminded of the importance of school attendance; all students should strive for 100% attendance, as this will give them the best opportunity to achieve successful outcomes in their learning. Please ensure that all absences are recorded on Compass or a phone call/note are given to the Middle School Office.

With the warmer weather upon us next term, I urge all parents to support the school by encouraging your child to be in the correct uniform as per the Lowanna College uniform policy.

I would like to wish all students, families and staff a safe and restful holiday break.

Darren Mitchell.

Year 10 Debutante Ball

Last Wednesday and Thursday night we saw 38 debutantes and their partners make their debut.

All the hours of dance rehearsals finally paid off as it all came together.

The boys dance was a standout performance on both nights, followed closely by the girls dance.

Thanks to everyone involved in making these nights so successful!
