Principal's Report

25 Years as Rangeview Celebration
Wow what a week of celebrations- our 25 Years as Rangeview and then the Colour Explosion. Well done to the teams who pulled these events together.
On Thursday we had a morning assembly to commemorate the staff and families who have made Rangeview the wonderful school it is. Performances by our choirs, band, string orchestra, rock band captured the talents of our students.
Our school captains, Emily and Lucas opened the Enchanted Tree garden and pavers. The garden area was surrounded by colourful bunting. Every student has contributed to this bright bunting which now hangs in our corridor.
All the students made a human 25 on our green oval after the assembly and the principal class and visiting officials held a shovel for the tree planting near the pavers. There is nothing like a deadline to see a project finished. We have a few bits and pieces to add to this special garden near the Munroe Street entrance but it is looking very polished.
Colour Explosion
Just a sea of colour and the weather cleared in the afternoon as we started our laps of the school. Our green oval was looking lush and a little Tim Burton with a touch of purple and green. It was an overall success with students and many staff rainbow coloured.
World Teachers Day - Friday 1st November
Every day, teachers are making a positive difference – creating opportunities for their students, empowering minds of young people and proudly teaching our future leaders, innovators and influencers. This Friday, Rangeview Primary School will celebrate World Teachers Day to thank our teachers for the important role they play. Spoil your teacher this Friday with a letter of gratitude!
October School Council Report
Facilities
Great news – we have been allocated a mod 5 (double) portable to accommodate our increasing enrolments. This building should be in place before the end of this term for the 2020 classes. I anticipate a site visit before the end of October to evaluate the positioning of the mod 5 portable.
In addition, Rangeview has been allocated funding through the Gonski Maintenance Blitz to address the 3 specialised assessments in termite damage, roofing and plumbing and structural repairs. The work is planned to be completed by mid-2020.
DATA
At the September meeting we presented the data from NAPLAN, Attitudes to School Survey. Staff teams will analyse the data from all surveys over term 4 and use this to guide the decisions in teaching and learning in 2020.The overall data is presented to schools through the Panorama portal.
We have also received the School Performance Report for 2019 that is a snapshot of the achievement of our school that has Rangeview as ‘Recharge’. Defined as the performance level is high with a change level of decline. This level of strong performance where recharging efforts will lead to improvement.
I believe this is based on the excellent Reading and Numeracy results in NAPLAN and the high level of attendance. The Writing results have shown an improvement but are not included in the data for this report.
2019 Parent Opinion Survey
Parent Opinion survey has been analysed by leadership and will be presented to staff. We look for trends across the surveys to see correlation of opinion and develop an approach to address a perception or problem. We have demonstrated improved data across the areas. While these are pleasing results I am aware of the limited responses by families.
We use a range of data to continually assess our progress in relation to the current Strategic Plan and the 2019 AIP (Annual Implementation Plan) review and plan the 2020 AIP. In November we will present the draft AIP for 2020 for School Council approval.
STAFF OPINION SURVEY DATA
First Lego League
It's that time of year again and a new group of twenty Level 5 and 6 students will be heading to Swinburne University to compete in the First Lego League in just over a month. The two groups are working well to build attachments and code their robots to solve tricky missions on the challenge table, and also devising a group solution to a problem that exists.
Student Leaders
Year 5 students will be starting to think about possible leadership opportunities and being a peer mediators is one such leadership opportunity. We had modified the number of student leaders in 2019 with the year level having only 66 students. This included the role of peer mediator with school captain or student voice.
Trained peer mediators’ role will include the shared responsibility of speaking at assembly, reminding students of their role within the playground, role-playing school yard disputes and possible resolutions and displaying positive social skills. This is in line with being a school captain or student voice leader.
