Seeking New Members for the GPF!

The Girton Grammar School Parents and Friends Association wishes all school families a happy and positive 2019.  We would like to extend a warm welcome to all new school families and to renew our connections with those who have been at Girton Grammar School in previous years.

The Girton Parents and Friends’ Association (GPF) has two goals – to raise funds for special projects and to host events or activities that help to build and strengthen the sense of community among families at our School.

In 2018, the GPF had our most successful single fundraising effort to date – the biennial Girton Grammar School Fairbrother Fair – which generated more than $55,000 in funds for the school.  With these funds, we have been able to give the school the go-ahead to proceed with an exciting makeover of the Junior School Playground, a joint School/GPF project that will benefit our youngest students for years to come.

The GPF works closely with the Headmaster Mr Matthew Maruff, Board members, staff and other parents who actively contribute to make Girton Grammar School the best school that it can be for all of our children.

As the umbrella parent group for the School, the GPF meets once a month in the Morey Building and occasionally, in a social setting.  Subsidiary groups include Friends of Junior School (FoJS) and Friends of Performing Arts (FoPA), and, parents interested in forming other co-curricular or social groups will be supported both by the School and the GPF.  There are also several Facebook groups that help families stay connected on an informal basis – they include the main Girton Grammar School page, a range of year level groups, Girton pre-loved uniforms (a great resource), and the Girton Racing Team

Membership to the GPF is open to all families and friends of Girton and can strengthen your ties to the School as you enjoy time with other School families. For families new to the region, we know that the GPF offers a supportive community network.  In March, we will hold our Annual General Meeting, which encourages new members to consider taking a committee role for the year.  Several committee members will be stepping down to encourage new faces and new ideas around the table.

For further information, or to register your interest in a committee position, please email GPF@girton.vic.edu.au

Girton Social Splash

Several families came to the GPF’s first social gathering of the year at the Castlemaine pool and enjoyed a day of meeting new friends and reacquainting with old ones after the long summer break.

Look in future editions of eLink and on Astra for details of more GPF social events.

Friends of Performing Arts

The Friends of Performing Arts first meeting for 2019 will be on Monday 11th February at 5.30pm in the Boardroom.  Any parents or Girton community members are most welcome to come along.
