Great Aussie Bush Camp

Last week Year 5 attended the Great Aussie Bush Camp at Tea Gardens. The children completed a number of wonderful activities including the giant swing, bush craft, raft building, canoeing, high ropes course, snorkeling at the beach and The Lost Island - which was a very muddy, fun activity.

All the children had a fantastic time with many getting out of their comfort zone and going higher or further than they thought they could.

A big thank you to Andrew Gibson and Sophie Johns for joining us and helping with the supervision of all the activities.

Do you have a child for Kinder 2020? Or do you know somebody?

Please note the change of date and the extra tour time at 5.30 pm.

National Young Leaders Conference

On Monday 11 March 2019 the School Captains, Prefects, House Captains and Junior Librarians attended the National Young Leader’s Day Conference in Darling Harbour. This conference gathers together prominent leaders from all walks of life to share their experience and Wisdom. All of our leaders were inspired by a range of presenters from community service, Australian Sport, the media and the Arts. Tim Diamond, the founder of the Cotton On Foundation, was the first speaker who amazed the children in his dedication and commitment to raising funds to allow for global quality education. 100% of the sale of everyday items such as bottled water, mints and tote bags in Cotton On Group stores around the world goes towards the cotton on work globally. The young leaders now understand that one small action can make a huge impact.

The second speaker of the day was Tamsin Janu who is an award winning children’s author. Tamsin spoke of her personal experiences and doubts she had in her own personal achievements throughout her life. Her positive attitude allowed her to overcome such doubts and achieve in her life. Tamsin’s inspiration to write came from many things that she had seen and experienced herself. She informed the children that to succeed in life all you need is a plan and courage.

Cate Campbell, Olympian Gold Medalist, was the third speaker of the day. Cate admitted to the children that she is not naturally a motivated person, however, she shared her story about her journey of becoming the best at something she loves. She explained to the children that we grow when we are challenged. In being successful, Cate encouraged the children to see clearly and set goals. She explained that our small goals help achieve our big goals. Cate informed the children to play to their strengths and to turn obstacles into opportunities. Through listening to Cate, the children could see the importance of challenging themselves. In motivating yourself, it is important to surround yourself with positive people who are going to challenge you to achieve. We grow when we are challenged is something the children took away from Cate’s presentation.

Holly Ferling, the fourth speaker of the day, is a rising star in international women’s cricket. She explained her achievements as well as setbacks to the children. She encouraged the children to think about responsibility and what they will do with theirs. Taking chances is something she promoted and explained to the children that taking a chance provides the opportunity to grow. She also touched on setbacks, explaining to the children that setbacks are opportunities to learn, “setbacks are life asking you how much you really want it”.

The inspirational speakers and the experience of being part of the National Young Leadership Conference has allowed each and every one of our amazing leaders to reflect on their own leadership skills and they are now extremely excited about putting their leadership skills into action within our own school community.
