A Merry Christmas to All

An unforgettable year draws to a close...!!!

This has been an extraordinary year - one that none of us expected to face at the beginning of 2020!! There are aspects that make us sad when we think about it. There has been pain and suffering. There is grief and loss. There is confusion. There is anxiety that it isn't over yet.

However, as we look back over this year, we can all hold our heads up high and be proud to have survived. We have all grown and matured through it and we have become more resilient.

As this year draws to a close I especially want to pass on my best wishes to the grade six students who are leaving BHPS and are beginning the next stage in their life's journey. This final chapter of primary school has not been what anyone would have wished for you. However, in many respects it will have prepared you for the future in ways that can't yet be determined or understood. Embrace the opportunities and challenges presented to you and continue to be flexible, as you have done so beautifully this year.

As all the staff, students and families at BHPS look forward to closing the chapter on this unforgettable year, we also look forward to times of celebration and being happy during the coming weeks.

Whether this time is celebrated because of the birth of Jesus or because it is a special opportunity to spend time with family and friends or both, it is that time of the year when traditionally many people send wishes of joy, happiness and peace to one another. It is a time of goodwill, when family and friends come together for a meal and exchange of gifts.

Whilst it is a time associated with happy feelings, for many it can be a time when being alone is painfully magnified.

During this year, in many streets throughout Melbourne a stronger sense of community developed as neighbours reached out to one other. This also occurred in workplace and school communities. As the constraints of COVID gradually ease, it would be wonderful if that caring for one another and that stronger sense of community continued to develop throughout this coming Christmas, New Year and holiday period.

Is there someone within your local, work or social community who would appreciate a thoughtful invitation to join a celebration event, so that they can choose whether they really wish to be alone or not?

It is my hope and desire that each and every one of you have a well-earned and wonderful time of relaxation, refreshment and rejuvenation. Stay safe and keep well.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
