Faith and Mission

Last Friday the College Gymnasium was filled with students and staff for the Opening School Mass. The theme for the Mass was WONDER – Celebrate all that is good with joy and gratitude. This theme, one of our six Core Values, has been adopted by all Kildare Ministries schools and Community Works in 2021. The WONDER theme was reflected in the readings, prayers, songs and in Fr. Barry’s Homily.

Our Lampbearers, Renee Scothern and Noami Thang Eng lead in the Opening Procession carrying in the College Banner and the Lamp of Learning. They were joined by Nyat Ebay who carried in the Kildare Ministries Cross and Sarah Lynch To who processed in with the Indigenous Message Stick. Other student leaders were involved in the Offertory Procession bringing forward symbols relevant to the theme.

Year 12 student, Kim Tran, read our first reading and she is to be congratulated by the way she broke open the Word of God. Thank you to Lashanda Quainoo, Fehima Kapetanovic, Fiona Ulku, Danielle Barbar, Minahil Rana, Sandhu Prakash and Ms. Wendy Smith for reading the Prayers of Intercession so well.

Many people help in the planning for the Opening School Mass and this is always greatly appreciated! Finally, thank you to Fr. Barry Hughes, one of our College Chaplains, for saying our Mass on Friday. Father Barry is a strong supporter of the College and invests a great deal of time in preparing for his Homily and planning for the Mass. His continuous dedication to supporting Marian College is always appreciated.

As a faith community giving time for prayer is most important. So we invite you to share in the message of the Opening School Mass by praying our Prayers of Intercessions.

Fr Barry

We now pray to our loving God who accompanies us on our journey of wonder through life. The response to each prayer will be: Lord, hear our prayer.

Year 9 Student: Lashanda Quainoo

As we start our school year, we focus on our theme for this year: wonder. Open our eyes to the wonder that is in all things. May we be open to every possibility. Help us to see, to consider, to ponder. May we inspire others!

We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Year 11 student: Fehima Kapetanovic

May we respond to the challenges of last year by developing a sense of wonder for all that is in our midst. Let us cherish each blue sky, each dramatic storm, each voice that speaks to us each day. May we lead others in the wonderful journey!

We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Year 7 student: Fiona Ulku

We Year 7s are excited to join the Marian community. As we learn about St Brigid, Daniel Delany, Nano Nagle and Kildare Ministries, give us your gifts to allow us to be open to new ideas, new understandings and new experiences. May we persevere when we find our learning difficult. May we inspire others!

We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Year 10 student: Danielle Barbar

Our core value this year is wonder. During this year may we develop our understanding of how rich this value is. Let us use the gifts we have to work with our teachers, our student leaders and each other to create a better world. May we lead others in the wonderful journey! We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Year 8 student: Minahil Rana

As a community we gather here today with a common goal: to learn, to develop as human beings and to develop our understanding of who we are and our place in the world. We pray for ourselves and for our teachers that we make the most of the year ahead. May we inspire others!

We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Year 12 student: Sandhu Prakash

Let us remember those who look after us and support our studies. May we respond to the needs of our families and friends with love and patience. Let us think before we act and consider before we speak. May we lead others in the wonderful journey!

We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Staff member: Ms. Wendy Smith

As we embark on a new year of learning may all of us in this Marian community open our eyes to the endless wonderful possibilities that You offer us daily. May we be humble in our searching for truth and seek to collaborate with each other at all times. May we inspire others! Lord, hear our prayer.
