Congratulations Jack!

By Georgie Armstrong & Nick Burke (Secondary Teachers)

Congratulations to Jack W in Year 9 on his amazing effort and achievement in becoming the youngest person to complete the Everest Challenge for cycling the distance it would take to climb Mount Everest.

For those who don't know, this challenge involves riding up and down a hill repeatedly until you have  climbed 8848 metres of vertical gain (The height of Mt Everest).

Jack rode up and down his street on the side of Mount Dandenong over 150 times in order to complete his 'Everest' as a charity fundraiser. Riding from 5am until just after 9pm!  Friends, fellow riders, journalists, neighbours and even a few local dogs turned out to turn a few laps with him and cheer him on to the final ascent.

This was a Jack’s Personal Passion Project for Year 9, which we believe has shown determination, organisation, creativity, passion and outward focus in his endeavours. As a part of his project, he set a goal to raise $1000.00 for Beyond Blue. In Jack's words he chose Beyond Blue because "during this pandemic a lot of people have struggled with anxiety, depression, self harm and suicide. The challenges of 2020 may stay with them for a long time. Every donation will help..." Since then, he has raised a highly commendable sum of $4019.00

A huge accomplishment for a young man. Well done Jack, we are so proud of you!  If you would still like to donate to Jack's cause, you are more than welcome to speak to Jack or contact us at school for more information.
