Lucie Dickens, Academic Dean of Languages

Congratulations to Year 6 students Stefani Andriopoulos, Archie Fifoot and Sinclair McClimont for receiving their prizes and certificates at the French consulate.

The competition they entered in Term 1 required them to research and make a short video about the French speaking islands of the Comoros.

They won second prize and were able to meet the Honorary French Consule at the French consulate on St Kilda Rd on Tuesday 7 December for an official ceremony.

Sinclair delivered his speech with confidence and the photos speak for themselves of the impact this event had on students!

The theme of French speaking countries is part of the Year 6 French curriculum at Kilvington.

Stefani Andriopoulos, Year 6

Today, I had the honour of going to the French Consulate with Madame Dickens, Archie and Sinclair in order to receive an Award from the Honourary Consule.

In Term 1, the three of us conducted research on the French speaking islands of the Comores, exploring aspects of their culture, customs and cuisine, and later created a video about our findings fully narrated in French.

We were absolutely thrilled to find out we came 2nd in the Years 5 to 6 category in a competition held by the AFTV! So, after three postponements, we were excited to finally attend the long-awaited official awards ceremony.

The function was certainly worth the wait. Having the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the French Consule was great, as was the opportunity to mingle with other award-winning French students from other schools.

After the presentations, speeches and the delicious morning tea provided by our hosts, it was time for us to head back to School.

Overall, this was an experience I will never forget and an amazing way to end my Junior School journey. I am truly grateful to Madame Dickens for all her support and encouragement throughout the year.

Archie Fifoot, Year 6

When Sinclair, Stefani and I found out we came 2nd in the ‘Francophonie à travers le monde french video competition’ for Years 5 to 6, we were surprised and super happy at the same time.

Way back in Term 1, we were set a task to create a video about the French speaking country, Comoros. After finding out where and when we were going to receive our awards, we went into LOCKDOWN😫.

But on Tuesday 7 December, we finally got the chance to receive our awards which was a very fun experience. Apart from that, I loved working with Sinclair and Stefani on our video, and learning many new and different facts about this fascinating and interesting French-speaking country.
