Year 7 Round Robin Information

Year 7 – Girls and Boys Volleyball

The Year 7 girls and boys volleyball teams competed in the round robin at the Maroondah Nets. Teamwork and key skills improved throughout the course of the day, and students had lots of fun. Congratulations to the boys B team on making the final, and to the boys A team on winning their final. The girl’s teams came very close to making the final as well, only missing out due to losing a set during one of their wins. Well done to all!

Year 7 – Boys Cricket

The cricket team stated off the year with 2 great games of cricket. On the day, we played Mount Waverly Secondary College and Glen Waverley SC. The first game we started batting innings best highlighted by Will. S with 33 runs. He got the game rolling and hit some very nice shots. Mini innings from Jeremy. C and Mitchell. H closed out the innings. Our fielding was spot on that game, with lots of run outs and heaps of catches. The highest wicket taker was Finn Hurren, who got all his two wickets in the same over! We won the game pretty convincingly, earning a well fought 43 run win. The second game was much closer, with the standout batting innings being Jack. C with 24 runs. Our batsmen fought really well, but good bowling from Mount Waverley meant we could only get 87 runs off our 15 overs. Our fielding innings was also filled with catches and run outs. With 15 runs needed in the last over to win, Lachlan. H took 3 wickets in quick succession to seal the win by ten runs. We played great cricket and I think we did Vermont proud. We would like to thank our Team Manager, Mr. Duiveman and coaches Adam. B and Lachlan. W

Year 7 Girls Cricket

The girls had a fantastic day in the sun. We ended the day with a well earned win against Highvale. They improved in leaps and bounds all day - by collecting more wickets, catches and boundaries in the later games in the day. The team are commended on their excellent sportsmanship and high spirits all day, and should be very proud of their efforts across the day. Our experienced cricketers provided excellent leadership and support for our new players - who stepped up and played their part in the team. The girls enjoyed making new friends, learning some new skills and trying their best! Thanks to our coaches - Kate and Tyson for providing support and excellent tips to the girls throughout the day. Everyone should be proud of their efforts and improvement across the day. Well done team!

Year 7 Girls and Boys Tennis

The Year 7 Tennis team had a smashing day out at Notting Hill Pinewood Tennis Club. The girls team won 2 out of 3 matches for the day, and the boys won 1 out of 3. Thanks to Mr. Loh for coaching.

Year 7 Boys/Mixed Baseball

The Year 7 Baseball team had a great day out on the field and did a fantastic job representing Vermont and the VSC Values! We played two close games that resulted in a loss, however the team should be proud of their efforts! The sportsmanship, integrity and efforts on the day were a reminder that victory can take other forms rather than winning the match! This group really came together and got the most out of the Round Robin experience, special thanks to Amara for joining the team! On behalf of the Baseball team, thank you to Mr. Gillespie and Miss Malander for their organisation, dedication, and effort to providing such a great sporting opportunity for the students!

Eastern Metropolitan Region Intermediate Girls Volleyball

In the first game of the round robin, we played Monbulk and it went to two sets. It was the classic sports tale of finding out feet and our voices in the first set then consolidating our previous form to push them right to the end in the second set, but losing in a close and confidence building set. (2-0) Second game we played Mooroolbark, we lost the first set 25 to 13 and it was just a case of over thinking it and not reading the ball off the opponent’s hand. There were some nail-biting rallies though. We lost the second set, 25 to 9. The final score doesn't reflect the effort (2-0) Third game verses Oakleigh South and we found our feet, voices and energy. We won the first set 25-14 Positive reinforcement at half time encourage the girls to almost take out the win in straight sets but Oakleigh took the chocolates 25-23.Third set scores were 15-3 Oakleigh winners. Elbow taps and fist pumps all round to volleyball, Mr. Mizzi for coaching and the team for giving their best on the day.
