Community Focus Day

Vermont Secondary College

Combined Community Focus Day

On Friday 26th March, the 3 Houses ran the term 1 Community Focus Day.

Thankfully the weather looked after us and it was a glorious day for festivities. The college was supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation in honour of Kelli Portbury. All would agree, a most worthy and important cause to support.

So many fantastic activities that kept the student body busy throughout lunch and of course all students were in free dress (for a gold coin donation). Some of the stalls and activities included:

  • Down ball comps at junior and senior school
  • Sausage sizzle
  • Bake sale (sold out first half of lunch)
  • Soft drink ring toss
  • Chocolate toss (always a big winner)
  • Students shaving their heads for the cause
  • Live music
  • Recognition wall (so important commemorating loved ones touched by breast cancer)

With so many thank yous, I hope I don’t miss anyone, but here goes, suffice to say a day of this enormity does not happen without the effort of so many:

  • Mr Holliday (setting up BBQ and chocolate toss)
  • Mr Ruff and Mr Mizzi for patrolling and cooking the awesome BBQ
  • My Beauglehall, Mr Gaston and the music students for an electrifying set of live music
  • The SMs who helped plan, organise and assist with activities at lunch.
  • Ms Tofari, Ms Hatfield, Ms McArthur, Students, Ms Stals and Ms Nevins for setting up and helping bake the wonderful brownies, cup cakes and cookies. This was an enormous exercise in team building so well done.
  • Mike, Ollie and the students who so willingly had their heads shaved for this worthy cause.
  • The student leaders who worked so tirelessly to get this event up and running. Who met hurdles along the way but kept persisting. A huge thank you.
  • Mike, Alannah, Ellie, Ollie, Oscar, Flick M and the Yr 12 leaders who led from the front and inspired all leaders to follow.
  • And finally to you, to the student community who participated in the massive day. Because of you we raised….

Over $4000.

So to the college community, thank you, thank you, thank you!
