Different jobs need different skills. The Skills Spiderweb shows 12 skills that are common across many jobs. The size of the web shows the level of skill or expertise workers usually need to perform well in their job. So, the larger the web, the higher the skill level. Students are encouraged to visit Skills Spiderweb and play with the little drop-down tab and explorethe many jobs listed. Students can learn more about the skills required for particular jobs.

NSW Government Health has really useful medical specialty fact sheets to assist students in making more informed career choices about the many careers in the health industry, and to ensure their career plans not only fulfil their personal aspirations but also align with the needs of the industry. Engineering Heroes Podcasts

Engineers Australia has now officially taken the helm of the Engineering Heroes podcast series. Students keen on a career in engineering may find these podcasts about the engineering challenges in today’s society of interest. Engineers discuss their work life and the issues they are dealing with.

Career as a Chief Listening Officer (CLO)

The role of a Chief Listening Officer (CLO) is an emerging career – a job that has only recently come about.

The Study.com. website states that a Chief Listening Officer specializes in monitoring both external and internal communications about organizations. Their primary focus is on gathering information from customers and employees in order to develop ways for an organization to enhance their relationships with both.The EasyUni.com website states that a CLO is the “air-traffic controller” for social media and other content channels. The CLO stays on top of breaking news, gossips, and chats, and circulates information while engaging the audience with its brand. The CLO makes sure that the company is aware of what the public is saying about the company’s brand or products. A Chief Listening Officer often has to be a master of a wide variety of skills—public relations, communications, marketing, and business.

Deakin University Campus Tours – April School Holidays

There's only one way to choose a uni. You've got to experience it for yourself and we are excited to announce that Deakin is open for campus tours.

Deakin Campus Tours will allow students and their families to experience their preferred Deakin University campus through a tailored tour, during the upcoming school holidays.

Guests will join a 45-minute tour with a current Deakin student and get a first-hand look at the cutting-edge facilities and have all their study questions answered.

The school holiday program will be held at all four Deakin campuses: Burwood, Waurn Ponds, Waterfront and Warrnambool. The April Term 1 school holidays events for each campus are:

Working as an Auslan Interpreter

The Good Careers Guide indicates that interpreters use their knowledge of languages and cultures to convert a spoken or signed language into another spoken or signed language, usually within a limited time frame and in the presence of the participants who need to communicate.

Interpreters may perform the following tasks:

interpret verbal or signed communications between two parties
provide interpretations of conversations or speeches
express the meaning and feeling of what is said or signed in another language in the appropriate tone and style within a range of settings
verbally translate written texts

Good Careers Guide - Interpreter

Auslan interpreters facilitate communication between deaf (or hard of hearing) and hearing people. They can be employed in a wide range of everyday settings – banks, legal meetings, hospitals, schools, TAFEs, universities, retail stores – and work in supporting effective communication.

Courses in Auslan is taught at a number of institutions including Melbourne Polytechnic. These include the Certificate II in Auslan and the Diploma of Auslan.

Youth Work and Social Work Courses offered in Victoria

According to the Good Universities Guide - Youth Worker, Youth workers develop and facilitate programs to work with and support young people, either individually or in groups, in order to address social, behavioural, welfare, developmental and protection needs. They work closely with teachers, social and welfare workers, local authorities, health professionals, refuge workers, parents and, in some instances, the police.

Social workers help people to deal with personal and social problems, either directly or by planning or carrying out programmes that benefit groups or communities. They are interested in challenging the structural barriers that contribute to inequality, discrimination, exploitation, and oppression within communities.
