To celebrate COSMOS and their webcast on hydrogen as a fuel, a group of Year 7 and 8 students conducted a small experiment during lunch time in order to try splitting water in order to make hydrogen gas…and it worked! This is something that you can try at home – you just need a battery and some pencils. Follow the link below for one example of this experiment. There is also an article produced by CSIRO that outlines how hydrogen powered cars work. Maybe a topic of conversation or debate you could have with the family?!

10 Environmental Science

Our Year 10 Environmental Science class has been busy building and monitoring the health of their Bottle Biospheres - a simplified ecosystem contained within a sealed 2-3L soft drink bottle. Students needed to consider a variety of factors in designing their model ecosystems including the abiotic and biotic components and a rationale for success.

Students observed, recorded and interpreted the data collected over a two-week period, looking at how components of an ecosystem change as they interact with each other and their environment. Below are some of our students designs.
