Library Borrowing

Library lessons have recommenced for grades K-6 and will continue throughout Term 2 every Friday. During their library time the students will have the opportunity to borrow books to read and enjoy at home. It would be greatly appreciated if you could remind your child that Friday is library day and then give them the responsibility of packing their library bag and books ready for Friday borrowing.

Accessing Oliver

The library system used at St. Joseph’s is known as Oliver, and it may be accessed in two different ways;

  1. The students can click on the 9 dots (waffle) in the top right corner of their Google page and scroll down until they find the library icon and then click on it; OR
  2. Enter  https://library.arm.catholic.edu.au/oliver/login/  in the search bar

Both ways will take you to Oliver. Remember you MUST choose St Joseph’s West Tamworth from the drop down box. Once there you will be able to search for books that you may like to borrow, as well as accessing SORA and World Book Online via direct links.

SORA

Download the free app to access this online reading resource provided for us by the Catholic Schools Office through our library system – Oliver. The app will ask you for your school – simply type in ACEN or choose ACEN from the drop down box to access an extensive range of books for your child/children to enjoy. St Joseph’s is a part of the ACEN library group.

WORLDBOOK ONLINE

Our library system – Oliver – also provides access to World Book Online. This wonderful resource is free of charge and I strongly encourage you and your child to take the opportunity to browse World Book Online by clicking on the icon on the Oliver home page.

Overdue Books

The collection of books our school library houses is a wonderful resource for all students and their families to expand their reading opportunities. In order to support the extension of further reading opportunities, I ask that all overdue library books be returned to school as soon as possible.

Should your child experience difficulty locating misplaced library books, I urge you to keep looking and not give up the hunt – misplaced library books can turn up in the most peculiar places! The barcode sticker on the back cover of the book will help identify it as the property of St. Joseph’s.

Overdue notices will be going home later in the term, but it would be great to have as many books returned to school before then.

Book Club

Book Club catalogues were sent home last week and orders for those wishing to purchase a book are due back at school by May 10th. Purchase payments may be made online via LOOP, by Qkr or by cash, paid to the school. Please don’t forget to put a name on your order, and, if the order is a gift could you please specify this clearly on your order.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge does not conclude until August 20, 2021, so you still have plenty of time to join in on the fun of the Premier’s Reading Challenge!

National Simultaneous Storytime 2021

Once again, our school is participating in the annual National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) campaign which aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Every year a picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places throughout the country. This year the chosen book ‘Give Me Some Space’ by Philip Bunting is being read live from the International Space Station by astronaut Dr Shannon Walker on the 19th May 2021.
