Mr Paul Wintle, Personal and Social Wellbeing Leader

There’s so much happening in the world of PSW at St John’s, but here’s a snippet from Jayme Gardner MO4 about our most recent HPE Outdoor Education Camp.

The Year 10 Outdoor Education Camp was fun as I got to spend time with my friends and try new activities for example surfing, kayaking, moonlight cinema and snorkeling.  Our camp site was so close to the Shoreham Beach and the surroundings were beautiful.

I was looking forward to making new memories with my teachers and friends and was excited to learn how to surf which was a lot harder than I thought. You must have great balance and it takes a while to master.

I enjoyed everything other than the weather, even Shana’s curry was delicious.  It rained all week!  The activities were extremely fun especially the kayaking.  Kayaking was my favourite as I got to try something new and have fun and a good laugh alongside my friends.  The adrenaline you got for when you caught the wave was amazing but terrifying at the same time.

Amber, my camp partner, and I both showed leadership qualities as we worked together and got everything done quite quickly especially when cleaning up the campsite and putting the tent away as we were the first group to finish.  I learnt that by trying new things and getting outside of your comfort zone you get to benefit from the experience and make new memories.

After this camp, I would certainly recommend that all students should make the most of school camp activities with their class.  You get to build on your experiences and develop qualities like leadership to be able to respond to challenging situations.
