Marina Kintzel - Phoenix House Leader

Greetings to all staff and students,

I hope everyone has had an amazing term break and a joyous Easter setting us up to take on Term 2 with renewed enthusiasm and motivation.

My name is Jessica Edwards, and I am proud to be appointed as one of the Phoenix House Captains of 2021.  I am extremely excited for all our upcoming events that the new school term has to offer.  As Founders' Day, MAD Day, and Athletics Carnival, amongst many others, are soon upon us, the students of Phoenix House are thrilled to represent our house at its best.  I am looking forward to working with the student leadership team, along with the student representative council to raise morale, school spirit, and create a sense of community this year.  Above all else, I value the happiness of those around me and I will strive to make this year, a year of charity and community; especially within our house.  I hope to make good use of our homeroom and pastoral time together to give a voice to our students so we can address student needs.  I believe that when a house has good energy and a positive approach to school spirit, the students that form part of the house are able to gain a sense of belonging.  I hope that I, along with the student leadership team, am able to achieve this.

I wish all of you the best of luck for Term 2 and look forward to collectively creating a memorable school year ahead.

Kind Regards,

Jessica Edwards

Being a Phoenix Captain so far has been great.  Working with Ms Kintzel, my co-captain Jessie and with students in Phoenix like the SRC, I’ve learnt how to become a better team player and how to lead others and help then improve.  So in general the role of House Captain has taught me how to become like a mentor.  I’ve been able to create new relationships with peers in Phoenix from all year levels whilst planning and running of school events such as aquatics carnival and harmony day.

In Term 2, we’ve got more events coming up such as athletics carnival, MAD day and founders day.  My hopes are that I am able to create more relationships with my peers in Phoenix, so I’m able to work easier with them in the future and for the house to get more involved in the event but more importantly to have fun and make happy memories.

PHOENIX’S INITIATIVE FOR FOUNDERS' DAY

Phoenix being the welcoming and warm house that they are, led by House Leader Ms Kintzel, are taking the initiative with fundraising by whipping up some of their delicious and freshly baked goods including, brownies, cookies and all of that good stuff! As a senior student leader within Phoenix, I will be there helping and supporting by selling these delicious treats.  With every dollar spent, you will be contributing to a greater cause as all profits made will go towards M.A.D day.  So, I encourage you all to come down to the stall, grab a brownie and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

PHOENIX HOUSE SPIRIT

With the support and encouragement of student leaders, staff (especially the Learning Mentors) and the House Leader, Ms Kintzel, Phoenix strives and continues to be a positive and safe community, within the St John’s community.  Within this safe community, the students of Phoenix continue to go above and beyond with all that is asked of them.  The students are quick to volunteer to take part in opportunities presented to them, whether it be something small like yard duty or even at fundraising stalls.  This year the staff and students of Phoenix House put 110% into their chants at the annual Aquatics carnival. Seeing my fellow Phoenix peers come together and cheer each other on was an experience to remember and cherish.

From a very proud member of Phoenix.
