A Tradition of Generosity

At the Senior School ANZAC Day ceremony, we reflected on the character of those who have served and fought for our nation; character displayed through courage, mateship and sacrifice. We also reflected on the values that underpin these character traits; the ideologies, ideals and principles on which our nation is founded. We acknowledged that it was this sacrifice that has won us the freedom to live the way we do today. We noted that this character has been kept alive, and was recently on display, in our front-line workers during the bushfires and the pandemic. We have them too to thank for the quality of life we have today. No other sacrifice compares to the laying down of one’s life. It is the greatest love anyone can have for others. Nonetheless, we ought acknowledge generosity and sacrifice everywhere we see it.

This School community lives in the benefit of the hard work and sacrifice of generations of Grammarians gone by; individuals and families who gave to build this School from just a dream. Their generous contributions to building projects gone by provided us with the facilities we have today.

We are still a generous community. All we have needed is a vision of the facilities the next generation of BMGS students will enjoy. For this reason, I am confident that next Wednesday’s BMGS Giving Day will provide more than adequately the funds necessary to dress the John Cunningham Student Centre with outstanding internal fittings. I am also confident that our generosity will open possibilities for further construction projects in the years to come. Please consider whether you are able to make a donation. If you are, please consider how generous you will be before next Wednesday and before you receive a call from our volunteers. As you make this consideration, please remember that this year, to care for families that are struggling financially due to the pandemic, the School froze fees for all families. In addition, to care for larger families, the School increased the sibling discount, again for all families. If your family is the recipient of a scholarship, please consider this annual benefit as you make your decision. If your family is not suffering financially, please consider these factors as you decide. Please also remember that your donation is tax deductible. This government benefit, coupled with Mr Cunningham’s intent to triple your donation, leverages your donation enormously. So much goodwill come from every dollar you donate.

Please remember, we are framing the donations of current families as a House competition. Parents and students of the winning House will be invited to a celebratory House-themed dinner in Cuff Hall. In addition, on the theme of food, the P&F will be running a Giving Day sausage sizzle for lunch at each of the three campuses. The charge will be $5 for a sandwich and a drink. They will double the proceeds of their BBQs as their donation to the Giving Day. Please support this initiative also.

Finally, please remember that students are at the heart of our School and the Student Centre will be at the heart of the Senior School campus, benefiting every single student in the final years of their School experience.

Please give generously!
