Magis report

The John XXIII Public Speaking Championship Grand Final will be held next Tuesday, 4 May at 6pm in the GBLT. Parents and supporters are most welcome. A copy of the program showing all grand finalists can be seen via the link at the end of this report.  Warmest thanks to Ms Dawson, Ms Farley, Mrs Holmes and Magis student leaders Skye MacMillan, Grace Barbour, Bella Pether, Eve Cullity, McKenzie Richardson and Joe Pow who were adjudicators for the heats. Grand final adjudicators will be outstanding Alumni debaters and public speaker Rory Hewson, Alex Panther, Charlie Richards and Ben Linsten.  Full results and house points will be published in a pictorial report with the next newsletter.

Round two of the WADL Debating was postponed and will now be held in Week 4 on Tuesday 11 May.  Full preparation sessions recommence in Week 3.  I am delighted that  Ms Tatiana Kurniawan has been added to the coaching panel and will assist with one of our strong Year 8 teams. A full instruction flyer for Week 4 Round 2 debates will be published next week.

A series of interviews between Griffiths University staff and our 14 Year 7 Magis students who have been involved in the Intergenerational program were completed this week.  The finale of this excellent program will be the Morning Tea for residents and students on Monday 10 May (Week3) at Mercy Village in Wembley between recess and lunch.  Parents of all students involved should have received emailed permission forms for this event.  The glossy hard cover book 'Looking Back’ which contains biographies of the residents written by the student teams following the series of interviews in this program will be presented to students and residents at the Morning Tea.  Parents are most welcome to attend the morning tea – please contact me if you are interested.

The next round of the House Academic Challenge series, Arts-Humanities, will be  held for all years in Week 4, and we look forward to a repeat of the outstanding numbers representing each House in the first two events in the series. St Louis leads the premiership table from Loreto and Koolyangarra at present, but all Houses have achieved some excellent results.
