Year 12 Geography Excursion

On Wednesday 28 April, Year 12 Geography students attended an excursion to the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary in Bayswater. The purpose of the excursion was to conduct an inquiry into the Swan Canning River System and complete fieldwork that complimented their study of biodiversity loss and the impacts of land cover change. Students were guided on an educational tour of the Sanctuary, as well as testing the quality of the water in the Bayswater brook main drain which flows through the wetland before joining the Swan River in order to reduce nutrients entering the river. Students’ results indicated that the restoration project and local strategies at the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary have managed a number of environmental issues and contributed to improved biodiversity of the Swan River.

Due to COVID restrictions, an alternative event, ‘April Bonanza’ was set up to allow WA swimmers to compete on a National level.
