K's for Caritas

On Friday 26th March the Echuca Parish hosted a 12-hour walk around the St. Mary's Church block. Many people from the Echuca Moama community participated in the event which consisted of people walking around the block from 7am to 7pm.

This event was created to recognise the many people around the world who are living in poverty and have to walk hundreds of miles to collect water for their families. Participants in the event were urged to carry either a bundle on sticks or a bucket of water whilst walking, as those living in poverty also have to.

Some students at St. Josephs walked to St. Mary's Church in Echuca, to participate in a caritas event known as Caritas K’s. We all held a maximum of nine-litre buckets either part or full of water.  We would then walk around the block three times but in a Third World country such as Africa, it would be 10 times to get to a well. They did this to show what others go through in other countries.

I took part of this event as a Year 8 Media student, pretending to be a journalist.
