Teaching and Learning

Welcome to Term II to our St. Joseph’s Learning Community

Welcome to our new teachers

This week we were very pleased to welcome Ms Ann Lawless to our teaching team. Ann is an experienced English teacher who will be replacing Ms Margie Ahearn who is on leave for the remainder of the year.

We would also like to welcome Mrs Elle Molluso back from leave.

Interim Reports and Parent/Teacher/Student

Teachers are currently finalising their Term I Interim Reports. These will be released to parents and students on Monday 26th April and will be available to be read via SIMON and PAM.

Please take this opportunity to read these,  to celebrate the work and progress of your child/children during Term I and to set goals for the remainder of this semester and year.

Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews will be held on Tuesday 4th May. Information regarding these will be released to parents shortly. These provide a valuable opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher and discuss their progress and what can be put in place to ensure a successful Semester result.

Tutor Program

We appreciate that learning for students was very different last year and it is understandable that parents have genuine concerns around their child’s progress. We received a large number of nominations from our parent community for our Tutor Team to investigate whether their child’s progress in literacy and/or numeracy was significantly disrupted as a result of COVID-19.

The Tutor Team at St. Joseph’s spent the last term undertaking a detailed assessment of all students' progress last year through reviewing their 2020 Semester Reports, analysing school based data such as ACER and where applicable Maths Pathways, and holding discussions with teachers to determine which students were of most need. The Tutor Team also looked at which students were already accessing, as part of their current learning program, the range of intervention programs for numeracy and literacy we have at year levels 7 - 9.

It was reassuring to learn that many of the students nominated had made steady growth in their learning last year, despite the different learning environment, or were already receiving additional support.

At the end of last Term, parents were notified around their child’s participation in the Tutor Program for Semester 1. Our Tutor Team will continue to re-evaluate the students involved in this program throughout the year.
